{"id":1928,"date":"2017-11-20T15:27:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-20T15:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/porthouston.com\/port-houston-chairman-provides-annual-state-of-the-port-address\/"},"modified":"2022-11-07T19:14:50","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T19:14:50","slug":"port-houston-chairman-provides-annual-state-of-the-port-address","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/porthouston.com\/port-houston-chairman-provides-annual-state-of-the-port-address\/","title":{"rendered":"Port Houston Chairman Provides Annual &#8220;State of the Port&#8221; Address"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/porthouston.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/PH-GHP-State-of-Port-11.16.2017-16-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"PH GHP State of Port 11.16.2017-16.jpg\" width=\"640\" style=\"width: 640px;\"><\/p>\n<p>Port Houston Chairman Janiece Longoria provided a \u201cState of the Port\u201d address at the Greater Houston Partnership\u2019s luncheon Nov. 16.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Longoria gave a presentation highlighting the Houston Ship Channel and its impacts from Hurricane Harvey as well as discussed its continued importance to the economy in a fireside chat conversation with Enterprise Products\u2019 CEO and President, Jim Teague.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">\u201cOur ship channel industry immediately banded together to navigate through uncharted waters, and to restart this economic engine, put people back to work and get commerce flowing,\u201d Longoria said about the major flooding event that occurred in August.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">The Houston Ship Channel supports the largest petrochemical complex in the nation and is critical to the country\u2019s energy and economic security. The Houston Ship Channel remains the busiest and productive U.S. waterway, hosting more than 9,000 vessel calls and 200,000 barge movements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">\u201cAs the local sponsor of the Houston Ship Channel, we are constantly working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to improve the channel that serves more than 150 public and private facilities, supporting $265 billion of economic activity annually,\u201d added Longoria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">The Chairman also reported that Port Houston\u2019s eight public terminals, which provide diverse cargo opportunities, handle 20 percent of the overall tonnage of the greater Port of Houston.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Enterprise Products has the largest ethane export facility in the world, located at Morgan\u2019s Point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">The event was held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in the Houston Galleria.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Port Houston Chairman Janiece Longoria provided a \u201cState of the Port\u201d address at the Greater Houston Partnership\u2019s luncheon Nov. 16.
