Port Houston\u2019s latest community event took place at the Houston Food Bank Oct. 18, with teams working together to benefit the Backpack Buddy program.<\/p>\n

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the program\u2019s focus has been on preparing special disaster backpacks, which are designed to assist students and families who were deeply affected by the storm.<\/p>\n
More than 50 port employees gladly teamed up to volunteer their time and efforts to create nearly 3,500 bags with supplies and hygiene products to assist underprivileged students in nearby schools. <\/p>\n
The Houston Food Bank\u2019s Backpack Buddy program works in partnership with participating schools, school districts, and other community partners to ensure that the food and personal items are distributed to school children every Friday to take home over the weekend. <\/p>\n
