The Port of Houston Authority welcomed the head of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske, on September 30. The Commissioner was in Houston to visit with port officials regarding the agency\u2019s operations at the Port Authority\u2019s container terminals as well as hear from private industry about investments they are making in the region that will increase cargo.<\/p>\n

PHA Chairman Janiece Longoria welcomed the Commissioner and highlighted the importance of the partnership of the Port and CBP to the efficient movement of commerce. Port Authority Executive Director Roger Guenther provided an overview of the port and thanked CBP for accommodating increased gate hours at Bayport and Barbours Cut container terminals. Several major petrochemical manufacturers from the region discussed recent investments in their facilities and how this growth will impact the flow of cargo.<\/p>\n
Other CBP officials participating in the meeting included newly appointed Area Director for Houston-Galveston, Roderick Hudson, as well as Director of Houston Field Operations, Judson Murdock. \u201cIt is important for the port to build on relationships with our stakeholders and partners, and CBP is a critical part of ensuring the port region\u2019s continued success.
